Set up a local FTP server for your network!

In my experience, networking with Windows XP\ME\98(se) isn't that good; it's unreliable at the best of times and it seems files can only be shared intermittently. That's why I bought a 500gb external hard-drive and turned it into a file server\FTP server. In this article I'd like to run though how to set up a local FTP server for your network.

Save Gas, Money, and our Environment!

Today's tips are on how to save money while at your local pump station. I am writing this post from Toronto, Canada where gas prices have hit $1.08 per Litre. For an average family with average salary it's rather hard for someone to shell out $30 - $50 every two weeks for gas. The following tips are general tips and some might not apply to you right this instance, but I'd advise to keep them in mind.

I have compiled 10 things to do to save fuel. Earth Hour was recent so I thought this would be a good follow up article. More...

Notepad tips and tricks

Notepad. Ever lasting and ever useful. What can't you do in notepad? Well here's 2 things you might not have known you could do.

Use notepad as a diary!

There are 2 ways to use notepad as a diary. You can do it the automated way - or the manual way.

Manual way

Open notepad and save the text file to somewhere. Now that you've got the text file saved, we can start making a diary. On a new line press "F5" to insert the time and date - you can easily delete parts of this as it comes out as text. Press enter and type in your diary entry. Do it every day, every other day, once a week or any other interval of time you fancy

Defragging a Hard-Drive

What does it even mean?

This article assumes you know the basics of how a hard-drive works. When you save something on your brand new computer, the files are split up into fragments, and are all placed sequentially. This is one of the reasons why new computers always seem fast, as the hard drive is able to locate and read the information rather quickly. Over time you install applications, delete applications, edit files, and move folders. All this disturbs the original sequential order the hard drive had. More...

Scheduling tasks on your PC.

Sometimes you forget to do things. We all do it; but as long as you remember to remind yourself, in some way, to do it then you usually won't forget. It's exactly the same with PC's. We can tell them do things on a regular basis - or even just as a one off. We call this scheduling a task. It can be anything from running an anti-virus scanner at a certain time every day or just opening an excel document reminding you to fill in a time sheet. In this article I'm going to run through how to do it on Windows XP. It shouldn't take long.

Tips to clean your keyboard!

When was the last time you even wiped your keyboard with a wet cloth let alone wash it all out? You use your keyboard daily and, because of this, your keyboard is one of the dirtiest places in your house. It is said that your toilet seat is much cleaner then a keyboard, simply due to the fact that it's washed more often. In fact, your keyboard may be so dirty that it could lead to skin infections to more serious diseases such as VRE and MRSA.

Advantages of having your games in ISO format and how to make ISO files!

You might have heard of ISO files before. You might not have. For those who haven't: ISO files are, basically, an "image" of a CD. They can be used in combination with mountable drives to create virtual disks. In this article I'd like to go through 1 of the advantages of putting your games into an ISO file.
